A Sacred Space to Honor Heroes

Memorial Court

When the memorial to honor McDonogh alumni who lost their lives in service in World War I and World War II was dedicated on November 22, 1946, at half-time of the football game between McDonogh and Severn School (a Naval Academy prep school at the time), it contained 60 names. The sacred space was refurbished and rededicated in May 2015. The monument was moved to align it with the center of the Rosenberg Campus Green, and the names of 10 McDonogh alumni who lost their lives in service to our country in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts were added to the base. The renovation also included the installation of a flag court with special lighting for nighttime illumination, new landscaping, and handicap-accessible pathways.
